This book Juha – A Portrait of Change is based on “Juha – In the Life of a Reindeer Herder”, a documentary produced by students of the Hochschule der Medien, Germany and Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Finland. It tells the compelling true story of Juha, a reindeer herder in Finland who is confronting considerable change in his environment and immediate society. The documentary is part of the project Portrait of Change. 

 The book itself is the result of a further collaboration between different study programmes at the Hochschule der Medien, and it tells the story of Juha and his community through a variety of diverse media. 

This book offers a social critical view on our modern world and confronts the reader with diverse aspects of change. Juha s story is a story of the struggle for survival of regional traditions and culture against a rapidly changing environment. Through his story the reader is brought face to face with a world that is slowly vanishing.
